ABCs of Recycling

With the return of students and staff it is important to remember where and how to properly recycle in order to keep our campus beautiful and clean. Recycling can be tricky at times, but these quick ABC tips offer a great resource on how to properly dispose of waste around campus.

A- All recyclable items can be placed in any of the RecycAll single-stream recycling bins found around campus. The most common recyclables include bottles, cans, yogurt cups, paper and cardboard.  For a detail list of acceptable materials check out Baltimore County’s website here or take a look at any of the recycling flyers scattered throughout campus.

B- Batteries and CFL light bulbs can be turned in at the Information Desk at the University Union, West Village Commons and/or any residence hall front desk. Not sure if your light bulb is a CFL or LED bulb? Click here to discover the difference, as well as the many benefits of choosing LED.

C- Compostable waste is organic material, made from something that was once living.  This includes all food scraps, napkins, and most paper products.  Even special bioplastics can be composted.  Look for the #7 PLA plastic symbol to see if your cup or container is compostable, and made from an organic material, like corn.  Compost bins can be found near most dining locations on campus.
