QuickTime for Windows Removed on Office Computers due to Security Risk

Apple has discontinued QuickTime for Windows and updates are no longer available. As a security precaution, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is advising the uninstallation of QuickTime for Windows. Apple is still supporting QuickTime on Mac products.

The Office of Technology Services (OTS) has already automatically uninstalled QuickTime and QuickTime Pro for Windows on faculty and staff office computers to get ahead of the potential security risks. QuickTime will be removed from classroom and lab computers on June 15.

QuickTime is one of many media player applications used to view videos and listen to audio clips. Because QuickTime has not really kept up with people’s feature preferences, it is not frequently used and most won’t even notice the change. However, if you need recommendations for an alternative to QuickTime or have issues playing media, call the OTS Faculty/Staff Help Center at 410-704-5151. See the Uninstalling QuickTime at Towson FAQs for additional information.
