Maryland’s Click It or Ticket Campaign begins May 23

Towson University Police will join with other law enforcement offices, highway safety officials, and safety advocates across the country in support of the 2016 Click It or Ticket mobilization, a highly visible national enforcement created to save more lives on our roadways. From May 23- June 5, 2016, Towson University motorists can expect to receive tickets, or warnings, if officers find them on the road unbuckled. Motorists can also expect Towson University police officers will be out in force both day and night.

As motorists take to the roads to celebrate the long Memorial Day weekend, law enforcement officials across the nation will be ensuring that everyone buckles up.

In 2014, nearly half of the 21,022 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were unrestrained, according to NHTSA. During the nighttime hours of 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m., that number increased to 57 percent of those killed. Law enforcement agencies will write citations day and night, with a zero-tolerance approach. In Maryland, the maximum penalty for a seat belt violation is $83.

Remember, seat belts saves lives.

For more information on the national seat belt mobilization, visit Click It or Ticket headquarters at www.nhtsa.gov, or contact TUPD Corporal Kia Williams at 410-704-5622.
