Join us on Tuesday, April 26th, 12 – 1:30 PM for a brown-bag lunch and training in Room 313, University Union, with Hollaback! Baltimore co-director Brittany Oliver, as she facilitates an open discussion on street harassment.
Hollaback! Baltimore is working to build a network of supportive non-threatening environments within our city because shouts of “You’d look good on me,” groping, flashing, and assault are a daily global reality for women and members of the LGBTQIA community. Street harassment is a form of sexual harassment in public spaces from strangers. Approximately 90% of women worldwide have reported experiencing sexual harassment at some point in their lives. This reality severely limits women’s and LGBTQIA folks’ freedom of movement in their own communities, causes high levels of anxiety, and serves as a reminder that society still casts them as second-class citizens. The constant threat of (or escalation of) violence can often prevent those who are harassed from “standing up for themselves” in the moment – whether it’s on the dance floor, mosh pit, or in line at the coffee shop.
This training will help you learn how to best take complaints of street harassment seriously, deal with the harasser, and offer supportive resources if needed. This event is open to all TU students, faculty, and staff. Light refreshments will be provided. Don’t miss it!!
