CBE Students shoot hoops, raise money for CBE scholarships

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament ended with a dramatic finish on Monday, but TU had its own share of basketball drama this weekend at the first CBE student organization basketball tournament hosted by the CBE Student Leadership Council.

The event, which was hosted at Towson High School on April 2, raised more than $400 for the CBE’s scholarship fundraising campaign for TU’s 150th anniversary.

Ten teams from various student organizations competed in competitive and “just for fun” brackets with teams from Alpha Kappa Psi winning both.

SLC president Patrick St. Clair said the event brought students from various groups together who may not interact otherwise while raising money for a great cause.

“Any time you try a new event, you can never be sure of the outcome until you show up. Luckily for us the CBE groups didn’t disappoint,” he said. “Eleven of the 16 organizations participated. About 40-45 students participated and 50-55 attended. From supplying teams to running the concessions, keeping time, and overseeing the schedule, these groups worked together to help raise over $400 towards a scholarship for the next generation of CBE leaders.”

The SLC’s next fundraiser is a pasta night on April 19 at 6 p.m. at the Green Turtle in Towson.
