Important information about TU closings and inclement weather

As we head into another winter season, please take some time to familiarize yourself with Towson’s closure procedures and plan ahead for storms. I urge you to have a discussion with your professors or supervisor now so that you can come to an understanding in advance of potential absences caused by inclement weather.

How we decide to close

In the case of inclement weather, the decision to close or delay opening campus is determined by the type and severity of forecast conditions; the reliability of the forecast; the conditions of campus roads, parking areas, sidewalks and exterior steps; and the traffic and roadway conditions in the general vicinity of campus. To maintain the academic calendar and continue services for campus residents, the university adheres to the academic calendar whenever practical.

What you should do if inclement weather occurs

Students, faculty and staff travel to the university from a broad range of areas, and conditions can vary widely within the region. If a storm occurs, assess the conditions and circumstances specific to you and make the decision you feel is best. Contact your professors or supervisor immediately if your decision will result in a lateness or absence.

Please be safe this winter.
