Help us SAVE ENERGY over Winter Break: shut down instructions for faculty, staff and students

Winter break is the perfect time to SAVE ENERGY!  The university spends $8.9 million on energy a year- that’s over $172,000 per week!

We’ll be doing our part by setting back temperature in buildings to reduce energy use from heating.  Here is what you can do:

  • SHUT DOWN all PC computers, monitors and printers. If you plan to use Remote Desktop over the break, you will need to leave your PC on and change the setting for “Put the computer to sleep” to NEVER, under Power Options in Control Panel.
  • UNPLUG cell phones chargers, coffee makers, TVs, stereos and other electrical devices from the wall.  Plugged in devices use power even when they are not turned on.
  • Turn off the lights.
  • Lock doors and windows.

In addition, here are tips for having a happy, safe, and green holiday!
