Musical Improvisation and the Solo Trumpet

For his sabbatical project, Dave Ballou recorded a CD of improvisations for solo trumpet.  The preparation for this recording included an in-depth investigation of extended techniques available with the instrument and the development of a conceptual understanding of musical improvisation.  During this presentation, Dave will discuss his findings regarding the development and pedagogy of extended trumpet techniques in regards to improvisation and offer an approach to the comprehension of these techniques in the performance of a musical improvisation.
