Benefits Bulletin – 2015 Open Enrollment – More FAQ

To help guide you through open enrollment, listed below are a few frequently asked questions.  For a complete list of questions, click on the link at the bottom of the page.

Q: Do I have to re-enroll in flexible spending accounts this year?

A: Yes; flexible spending accounts do not carry over from year to year.  Enrollment is required every new plan year.

Q: Will the rates change in 2016?

A: There are minimal rate increases in some of the plans.  Please review the Employee & Retiree or Contractual/ Variable rate sheets for more information.

Q: What actions are required for regular faculty and staff currently enrolled in benefits?

A: No action is required unless you want to change benefits, dependents, or enroll in a flexible spending account (FSA) in 2016.  Current benefit choices will rollover to 2016, except FSA.

Q: What actions are required for contingent faculty and staff currently enrolled in benefits?

A: No action is required unless you want to change benefits, dependents, you are changing the percentage of time worked, or your contract ends on December 31, 2015.

If your contract ends on December 31, but is being renewed in January for at least 90 days, the new contract dates must be reported to the Benefits unit.

If you are changing the percentage of time worked, please email openenrollment@towson.edu for additional information.

If you are not changing benefits, dependents, or percentage of time worked AND your current contract is continuing for at least 90 days in January, 2015 benefit choices will rollover to 2016 and the state of Maryland Employee Benefits Division will issue new benefit payment coupons.
