Benefits Bulletin: Weekly Wellness News – It’s Time for a Flu Vaccination!

Why should people get vaccinated against the flu?

The flu is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different and the flu can affect people differently.  Remember, even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others. During some flu seasons, as many as 49,000 people have died from the flu, with between 80% and 90% of flu related deaths in people 65 years and older. “Flu season” in the United States can begin as early as October and last as late as May. An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances you will get seasonal flu and spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through the community.

Take advantage of the opportunity to get your flu vaccination now!  Flu vaccinations will be available at TU’s benefits fair on October 9, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., room 306 of the UU.  The cost is $20 payable by check OR the health center will bill your insurance company if you bring your health insurance ID card to the fair.
