Skype for Business is now available to students, faculty and staff. Skype for Business is part of the Office of Technology Services’ (OTS) ongoing Office 365 project.
What is Skype for Business?
Skype for Business replaces Lync and offers instant messaging, presence, voice and video calls and meetings.
To get started:
- Review the Skype for Business Self-Help Document from OTS Training.
- Read Skype for Business FAQs on the Office 365 Web page.
- Log into the Lync sign in window with your full email address, which may be different from your NetID.
- Faculty and staff can use Outlook Web Access (once their mailboxes are moved to Office 365) to sign in and use lightweight Skype for Business features, like Chat.

For TU-owned computers:
- Lync 2010 and 2013 will be updated to Skype for Business automatically on June 13-14, 2015.
For personally-owned devices, do one of the following:
- Download and install Microsoft Office 2013 from Office 365, which will include Skype for Business.
- Download and install Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac from Office 365, which will include Lync 2011 for Mac.
- Download and install mobile Lync 2013 client for iOS, Android or Windows Phone from the respective app store.
