Welcome the United States – Indonesia Partnership Program to Campus

Towson University International Initiatives is pleased to welcome faculty, staff and students from partner universities in Indonesia and the United States as part of the United States Indonesia Partnership Program (USIPP) during the week of June 1. This program features two students from each university studying, interacting and making powerful connections around the themes of religious pluralism and democracy. Sylvia Otieno and Randi Williams will represent Towson University as student participants. Otieno, an International Studies major in the Honors College, and Williams, a Political Science major, will earn academic credit for this collaborative study abroad program. The group will spend a week on each university’s campus, in both the United States and Indonesia.

During their first week hosted by Towson University, students will visit culturally and historically significant sites in Washington D.C. and Baltimore City and County. Professor Donn Worgs of the Political Science Department, and Professor Tamelyn Tucker-Worgs of Hood College will lecture on religion and the struggle for African-American political rights, the role of African-American churches in contemporary American politics, and provide critical overviews of religious pluralism and democracy in the United States.

Partner institutions include Lehigh University, the University of Michigan, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Airlangga. The Office of International Partnerships regularly welcomes international delegations and encourages community members to be involved. For specific ways to participate, please contact sip@towson.edu.
