SABBATICAL PRESENTATION – Catherine Horta-Hayden

Research on integrating rotator discs into traditional ballet class work

The primary goal of Catherine’s sabbatical  project was to develop an innovative instructional strategy for collegiate ballet students, using traditional physical therapy tools, and creating a pedagogical sequence in order to improve functional turnout and improved stability on the standing leg.

Rotator discs are currently used in Pilates and Physical therapy training to help dancers recover or prevent injuries. Her current research is an investigation into innovative strategies that utilize and incorporate these rotator discs in the ballet classroom in order to improve ballet technical training and expressivity.

The presentation will take place on Friday, May 1st, 2015 at 11:00am in the Center for the Arts 1003.
