Planetrium Show “Meteorites”

Dr. Alex Storrs, Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences, will present a planetarium show titled, “Meteorites” in the Watson-King Planetarium, Smith Hall, Room 521. “Thomas Jefferson is said to have exclaimed “Gentlemen, I would rather believe that two Yankee professors would lie than believe that stones fall from heaven” upon hearing the report of Profs. Silliman and Kingsley  of Yale, who investigated the “Weston Meteorite”, observed to fall in that town in Connecticut on Dec. 14, 1807. Accounts of rains of stones predate this occurrence, however, and study of these leftover building blocks of the planets remains a vital and vibrant field. We will review this area of study and, uniquely for astronomical investigations, observe samples of different types of meteorites from TU’s collection.”

Plan to come and enjoy the show on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 8:00pm.    Telescope viewing, weather permitting after the show.
