5 Quick Tips to Reducing Energy Consumption

Towson University’s four week long competition, Do it in the Dark, has kicked off. The campaign challenges each resident hall to have the lowest energy consumption in the group. So, for example, if the Tubman House has the lowest energy consumption of all resident halls, it wins the competition—and a prize of $250!

In the spirit of competition and helping the environment, here are five quick and easy tips to help reduce energy consumption—and  hopefully put your building in the lead:

  • Turn off lights and the heater/AC before you leave your room.
  • When not in use, unplug your laptop. When left plugged in, laptops cost an estimated $15.90 annually.
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
  • Set up a timer to put your computer to “sleep” or ‘hibernate” mode when it’s not in use.
  • Report all leaks, running toilets and dripping faucets to maintenance immediately.
