Many courses have topics that need to be covered over several class meetings. During these long-term learning sessions, students can use all the practice they can get. Professor Sarah Gunning , who teaches technical communication and rhetoric in the Department of English, will introduce two tech strategies — Creating Coach Cards and Creating Google Docs — to facilitate group-led class discussions, using examples from an exam-based course. These strategies will work in any discipline and both have received positive feedback from students, saying that they help them understand and retain the information. If you have a long-term lesson for which you would like to develop additional learning materials, bring your e-materials to this session. We will meet for coffee, tea, and snacks in the College of Liberal Arts Writing Center (LA 5330) at 4:30pm and then move to a computer lab (LA 4101) to share ideas, get feedback from one another, and create a few new course materials during the workshop.
