Call Backs:  Lists will be posted on the Department of Theatre Arts callboard on Wednesday, September 17th. Musical sides and other information will be available in CA3037 to those called.  Callbacks will be held in CA 3057.

Audition Requirements:

  1. All theatre arts majors and minors must perform as cast. Non-theatre arts majors may specify for which show they wish to be considered. It is not possible to perform in both shows.
  2. Prepare a one minute contemporary monologue. (Ex.: Sam Shepard, Paula Vogel, August Wilson, Tracy Letts, Annie Baker, Sarah Kane)
  3. Prepare approximately 32 bars of a song in the style of Stephen Sondheim (between a 1:00-1:30 minutes long.) Songs by Stephen Sondheim are preferred and may be taken from Sweeney Todd if desired. Regardless, the song should exhibit the genre of “traditional” musical theatre or musicals patterned after the integrated text and music approach common to Sondheim’s works.  However, NO pop songs, rock & roll, or rock musical songs may be presented (i.e. Jesus Christ Superstar, Urinetown, RENT, Spring Awakening, Hair, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Next to Normal etc…).[1]
  4. Sheet music with ALL of the accompaniment clearly visible must be presented to the audition pianist.
  5. All auditionees must perform a very brief musical skills assessment including vocal range, pitch matching/memory, and rhythmic memory.
