Each year during the full second week of April, colleges and universities across the country recognize the importance of the student work experience during National Student Employment Week. Here at Towson University, student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative, enabling faculty and staff to do our jobs better.
This year, National Student Employment Week will be observed April 13–19, and we encourage all on-campus employers to take time to celebrate. Acknowledging the efforts of your student employees motivates them to do the best job possible!
Below are some examples of ways to show your appreciation:
- Bring in a couple of flavors of ice cream and toppings (nuts, berries, syrup, etc.) for an ice cream sundae party, or bring cookies, cake, cupcakes, or brownies
- Designate a day when the whole staff can get together and order pizza
- Organize a potluck luncheon to be held in the office
- Have the staff sign a thank-you card for each of the students
- Decorate an office bulletin board or the office door for the week in recognition of your student employees (with pictures!!)
- Send a note of praise to the families of your student employees
- Create and distribute certificates of appreciation to student employees
- Send a free e-card stating your appreciation for a job well done
- Award students small tokens of appreciation, such as gift cards to local restaurants, shops, and attractions
- Purchase gift bags and fill them with sweet treats and individual notes of encouragement and thanks from the staff
- Post pictures of your student employees on your office/department’s social media pages and list the wonderful things they do
The options are endless, but the most important thing you can say is “THANK YOU” to your student employee(s) for their contributions to your office/department.
