Art and Culture of Rome: Ancient Beginnings and the Classical Legacy, Italy
May 24- June 10, 2014
Earn credit while studying in Rome, Italy with Towson University in summer 2014. Students will experience the art and architecture of the city of Rome from its earliest beginnings in antiquity to today. Explore the major monuments of ancient Etruria, including the magnificent tombs in Cerveteri and Tarquinia, and of imperial Rome, including the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon with TU Professor Dr. Amy Sowder Koch. The legacies of the classical tradition in the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods will be discussed in the course by walking through the hidden catacombs, visiting the magnificent Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Villa Borghese, and many of the spectacular churches and fountains throughout the city. All classes will be held on site, in person in museums and archaeological sites.

Academic Information | ARTH 494 or ARTH 600 Art History Study Abroad (3 credits). Graduate students can earn ARTH 600 by completing all of the course work plus a research paper on a topic of the student’s choosing with advice from the instructor. TU students may receive Honors credit for their study abroad experience. |
Eligibility | Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old. |
