After-School Volunteer Opportunities in Baltimore

The AmeriCorps VISTA for Cherry Hill Projects in the Office of Leadership & Civic Engagement is looking for volunteers for three after-school programs taking place in a south Baltimore neighborhood called Cherry Hill with which Towson University has partnered since 2005.

The opportunities include:

Homework Help: Provide homework help to 5th-8th grade students during study hall after-school at Arundel Elementary-Middle. 60 minute tutoring sessions will occur every Tuesday from 3-4 p.m.
 MANDATORY TRAINING is September 26 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Higher Achievement Baltimore (transportation provided)

Reading Tutors: Provide reading assistance to struggling young readers at Friendship Academy in Cherry Hill. Engage in one-on-one tutoring with K-5th grade students who are reading 6 months – 2 ½ years below grade level.  45 minute tutoring sessions will occur weekly. Days and Times will be announced at the training on Sept. 24 2-3 p.m.

Young Gardeners Program- Volunteers are needed for the Young Gardeners Program to teach elementary-middle school students after-school about gardening and nutrition. This program will take place every Tuesday from 4:45-5:45 at Arundel Elementary-Middle School. An easy to follow curriculum will be in place for the volunteers to use throughout the program. MANDATORY TRAINING September 26 5:30-7 p.m. at Higher Achievement Baltimore (transportation provided)
