COMPUTER VIRUS AWARENESS
Update your antivirus and scan regularly!
The Office of Technology Services – Information Security has noted a significant increase in malware activity within the past month. Specifically, the Tdss Trojan has been spreading among student devices.
WHAT IS THE TDSS TROJAN?
The Tdss Trojan is malware that is designed to steal data being transferred by the host computer. This data includes usernames, passwords, and credit card information. If you use online banking, your banking information could be stolen. The Tdss Trojan spreads very quickly and can even disable your antivirus program, if left unchecked.
WHICH DEVICES NEED VIRUS PROTECTION?
All your electronic devices need virus protection. These include desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
HOW DO I GET VIRUS PROTECTION?
The Office of Technology Services recommends installing Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection on all Windows devices. It’s free and easy to use. For tablets and smartphones, there are a variety of free, reputable applications such as “avast!” available for download. For Mac and iPhone users, make sure your device software is up-to-date and consider a file scanner application such as “lookout” or “virusbarrier.” For more information, visit the OTS Information Security website.
I THINK MY COMPUTER MIGHT BE INFECTED. WHAT DO I DO?
If you think your computer (laptop or desktop) might be infected with the Tdss Trojan or other malware, update your antivirus and run a full system scan.
