John Corvino: The Gay Debate Today, “Haters,” “Sinners,” and the Rest of US

Monday, April 11th, 7 p.m. Potomac Lounge The Gay Debate

Today: “Haters,” “Sinners,” and the Rest of Us
Is it possible to have a productive conversation about GLBT issues? One side labels the other “sinners,” “perverts,” or “deviants” and dismisses them as a lost cause. The other side labels the first as “haters” or “bigots” and–in much the same way–treats them as beyond redemption. There’s a lot of name-calling, but very little effort at understanding. That’s where Dr. John Corvino comes in. In this new program, he draws on two decades of speaking experience as “The Gay Moralist” to help promote a better dialogue on these issues. With his trademark combination of philosophical rigor, sensitivity, and humor, he challenges people from all sides of the debate to rethink easy assumptions.
