Southern Experience: Jewish & African-American Alternative Spring Break

Have your feet ever prayed? Here’s your chance to make on ordinary Spring Break extraordinary and meaningful. March 18-27, 2005

The African American Cultural Center and Hillel are sponsoring SOUTHERN EXPERIENCE: AN ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK.

On a journey to Alabama and Georgia, Jewish and African-American students from Towson University will be exploring history and their communities’ individual and collective stories as we visit sites important to the Civil Rights movement. Timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the March for Voters Rights from Selma to Montgomery, AL, this trip will focus on Black-Jewish dialogue then and now, and the history of Black-Jewish collaboration in struggles for social justice and, specifically, the civil rights movement. Cost is only $300 – transportation, lodging, and most meals included, with opportunities to lower individual cost by group fundraising.

Applications are available at the following locations: African American Cultural Center (AACC), Jewish Activities Center (JAC) and coming soon online. Applications are due Monday, February 14th!
