SOFTWARE TIP OF THE WEEK
Microsoft Office 2003: Draw Perfect AutoShapes in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
It can be a challenge to draw a perfectly proportional circle, square, or straight line with the AutoShape tool. The slightest cursor movement can throw off an angle or distort a curve, making the process long and frustrating.
The Shift key makes drawing perfect shapes a breeze. Simply press the Shift key while drawing or sizing an AutoShape and you will have a perfectly proportional shape. Once you have created your desired shape do not let go of the Shift key before letting go of the mouse button or you will return to free draw mode.
To Create a Perfect 5-point Star in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003:
1. Start PowerPoint.
2. Click the AutoShapes button on the Drawing toolbar at the bottom of the PowerPoint screen.
3. From the AutoShapes menu, select Stars and Banners.
4. In the Stars and Banners group, click the 5-Point Star.
5. Note: The menu disappears and your mouse pointer changes into a ?black plus sign?. If you ?draw? the 5-Point Star now, you will do it in ?free draw? mode.
6. Press and hold the Shift key on the keyboard and ?draw? the desired size of the 5-point star by pressing the mouse button.
7. When ready, release the mouse button.
8. Note: if you release the Shift key before releasing the mouse button, you return to ?Free Draw? mode.
9. If you need to resize the star (or any other object, such as a logo, chart, or picture) you may want press the Shift key while resizing the object to resize the object?s height and width proportionally.
