Unique Job Opportunity for Graduate Students and Recent Alumni

Towson University is working with NPR to implement radio captions for individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. We are looking for four individuals to work as a team to produce live captioned broadcasts. This position also includes a 6-week training period.

Position Requirements:
Enrolled in the graduate school at Towson University, have graduated within the past year or will graduate in December, 2012. Unfortunately, this position is not open to undergraduates.
– Ability to speak clearly
– Minimum typing speed of 55 wpm
– Excellent reading comprehension skills.
– Good computer skills
– Enjoys attention to detail
– Enjoys current events and news

Responsibilities:
– Successfully complete a 6-week training to perfect skills needed for creating captions
– Use editing and text to speech software to create accurate captions.
– Continued practice of various skills each week to enhance accuracy.

Position Details:
– Approximate start date: January 7, 2013
– Applicants will go through a screening process before interviews take place.
– The positions pay $16/hour, 15-hr/week
– The position has the potential to continue through the summer of 2013 and through the 2013-2014 school year depending on performance and funding.
