This notice serves as a reminder that effective Monday, March 22, all ?@saber.towson.edu? e-mail addresses will be eliminated in an effort to standardize TU?s e-mail system to include only ?@towson.edu? addresses.
The majority of faculty and staff members use ?@towson.edu? addresses and will not be affected. Please contact the Help Center, x4-5151 or {helpcenter@towson.edu}, if you need clarification about e-mail addresses.
Those that use a Saber address may need to update business cards and notify contacts that their e-mail address will change.
The Office of Technology Services (OTS) decided to eliminate Saber addresses as a measure against the increasing amounts of spam, or unsolicited junk e-mail, sent to the university on a regular basis. OTS learned that the majority of mail received by Saber addresses is in fact spam. The university discards between 1.5 and 2 million spam messages per month, or about 50,000-60,000 per day. For more information on spam, how to block and filter it, and the steps the university has taken to reduce it, go to {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/ots/faculty/policy/email/spam.asp}.
The ability to send and receive e-mail will not be affected in any way on the cutoff date. Web services that rely on the Saber server will remain available after the cutoff date, as well.
If you have additional questions, please contact the Help Center, x4-5151 or {helpcenter@towson.edu}.
