For the past several months, Computing and Network Services has regularly deployed security updates and patches to Windows-based computers in an effort to take a more active role in ensuring that campus computers are protected from the threat of virus attacks. This is a reminder that CANS will continue this process throughout the spring semester.
Most updates will be sent late at night so that they can run without affecting work performed on the computer during the business day. Because updates are sent at night, CANS highly recommends that you log off or restart your computer at the end of the day. Please do not shut down your computer. (To restart or log off, go to the Start menu, click Shut Down, and choose to Restart or Log Off.)
If you have turned off your computer at night, you may see a message on your computer the following morning stating that an update is ready to be installed. (You may also see this message if a high-priority update has been sent in the middle of the day.) You can choose to run the update immediately, or delay it until another time.
