A recent Daily Digest article addressed warnings that we have received from other institutions regarding a fraudulent company telephoning campuses claiming to be their designated copier/printer supply company. The scam has now hit home! A department on our campus received a call of this very nature.
The caller requested the model number of their printer and stated that they just received a shipment of printer cartridges and was told to redirect them to the TU department. Fortunately, the person answering the call was made aware of this type of scam through our many warnings and did not fall prey. These inquiries are deceitful and simply a way to trick people into placing orders that result in exorbitant pricing. Please warn everyone in your department of this scam!
Towson University currently has a toner cartridge contract with AJ Stationers. No one from AJ Stationers or from any department on campus will telephone departments to ask the above questions. If you receive a questionable call, do not provide any information, do not agree to any purchase. Instead get the callers name, company name, and telephone number and contact the Procurement Department immediately. We will take the necessary steps to investigate the situation.
Remember that old saying, ?Buyer Beware!”
