Blackboard Discussion Board: Facilitating and Assessing Online Discussions and Collaboration
Want to use Blackboard to extend your in-class discussions or to improve your online instructions? You will review the process of setting up Discussion Boards and Groups in Blackboard and identify strategies for structuring, facilitating, and assessing online discussions and collaboration based on best practices. You will then apply one of the strategies to a current activity in your course to create a new activity for your students. Bring an activity that you would like to modify for use in an online collaboration or discussion setting. Also feel free to bring your own experiences to share. This class is for faculty seeking to implement or improve online discussions in Web-supported, hybrid, or online courses.

Emerging Technologies: Blogging and Podcasting the Simple Way
Want to use blogs and podcasts to enhance your course but don’t want to spend all your time learning new software? Find out what a blog and podcast really are and how they might be used in your course, both for instruction and assessment. In this workshop, you will set up a free Blogger account, submit posts to your blog using e-mail and the Blogging editor, create an Audioblogger account, make your first podcast, and learn to edit and manage your blog. It won’t all be fun; you’ll also discuss strategies for using these tools effectively and limitations of these tools. Bring a cell phone to this workshop if you have one.
