Emerging Technologies – VoiceThread – Adding Multimedia to Your Online Discussions

VoiceThread provides instructors with an opportunity to use media (voice, video and text) to transform the standard discussion board into a collaborative workspace for rich discussions. Students can interact with these threads by posting verbal comments on a course topic or uploading documents to demonstrate their ideas, all in one shared space.
This hands-on workshop explores an alternative that allows students to connect and build community in online courses and provides a creative extension of class discussion or activities in face-to-face courses.

Join Bob Cave (Student Computing Services) and La Tonya Dyer (CIAT) for a hands-on session introducing a project guide that will cover designing, planning, managing, storing and assessing a video project using pocket camcorders.
During the session, participants will have an opportunity to apply the video project guide to an in-class project. Participants will design their project, record footage, edit video in Windows MovieMaker, and upload recordings.
Emerging Technologies – Using the iPad for Teaching and Learning

The iPad was introduced in spring 2010. At first it was labeled a gimmicky device, but in the time since its arrival, the iPad has found a place in the classroom. This workshop will explore how to best position the iPad as both a teaching assistant and a training aid for the classroom.
Emerging Technologies – Capture Your Voice and Screen Action with Ease Using Screencast-O-Matic

Screencast-O-Matic is a free, online, screen recorder software that allows you to capture 15-minute recordings. With a few clicks you can capture, store and share whatever action is happening on your computer screen along with your voice narration. All that is required is a computer, internet access, mic and speakers to record your presentations from any location.
In this hands-on workshop, we will use Screencast-O-Matic to create recordings with narration and screen captures.
