?Expecting an Important Package??

In order to ensure the campus community properly receives packages, Materiel Management would like to remind you of University addressing standards and package delivery procedures. This information pertains only to faculty and staff package and mail delivery.

The campus uses a standard address format for US Postal Service mail and standard package deliveries. For these deliveries, faculty and staff addresses should look as follows:

NAME
DEPARTMENT
TOWSON UNIVERSITY
8000 YORK ROAD
TOWSON, MD 21252 (Please note that we have a unique ZIP code)

The above address format does not always work best for express (i.e., overnight, next-day air, etc.) package deliveries. Carriers such as FedEx, UPS and DHL need more precise delivery address information since they deliver directly to departments. For these carriers the following format must be used:

NAME
DEPARTMENT
BUILDING & ROOM
TOWSON UNIVERSITY
8000 YORK ROAD (*unless there is a unique physical address)
TOWSON, MD 21252

*Faculty and staff in buildings with unique physical addresses such as 7800, 7801 or 7720 York Road should use these addresses. This format gives the carriers the information they need to quickly deliver to the correct destination.

In response to some recent confusion from customers, Materiel Management would like to clarify that campus deliveries of FedEx, UPS and DHL packages are being delivered as usual on campus. Please note that these carriers are neither delaying nor refusing delivery.

However, do not assume that packages being shipped by DHL, FedEx or UPS are being shipped overnight or express by virtue of the carrier being used. Verify the method of shipping when placing an order with a vendor, and ask for the approximate day and time of delivery. If you need ?express or overnight? delivery, ask for it and confirm that you are receiving it.

Express shipments will not be accepted by Central Receiving or Mail Services, and the driver will be directed to the department. Standard ground shipments for departments, faculty and staff are generally received by Central Receiving and redelivered the next day.

If express delivery was not specifically requested or provided, but you are expecting a package delivery that is needed as soon as it arrives, please contact Central Receiving (ext. 42478) and Mail Services (ext. 42260) in advance, so that they can be on the lookout for and notify you immediately of its arrival. Arrangements can then be made for same-day pick up, or if resources are available, same-day delivery. Please do not wait until 4:30 p.m. or later on Friday afternoon to make that call.
