Be Alert to Concerning Student Behaviors

On Friday, September 28, 2007, between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., an online seminar offered by Magna Publications and the National Center for Higher Risk Management will be sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and the Counseling Center on being alert to troubling student behaviors. By participating in this seminar, faculty will learn:

*how to distinguish a disruptive student from a student in distress
*when, where and how to talk with distressed students
*when to call Campus Police or alert the Counseling Center
*how the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 protects
students whose distress stems from disability
*when one can view class absenteeism as a component of behavioral
intervention
*what constitutes appropriate statements for syllabi and housing
contracts

The seminar will be held in Linthicum 200. Light refreshments will be served. For further information, please contact Dr. Jim Spivack at 410-704-2512.
