GRADUATION PLEDGE 2007
This year some of our graduating seniors at Towson University will be participating in a national Graduation Pledge, which states: “I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organizations for which I work.”
The Graduation Pledge began at Humboldt State College in California in 1987 and there are currently over 100 universities across the nation participating in the national Graduation Pledge Alliance. The pledge is voluntary and graduates determine for themselves what they consider to be socially and environmentally responsible. The pledge can be carried out in many different ways. Pledge participants wear green ribbons on their graduation robes. The pledge symbolizes a commitment to better the world in which we live, through any and all professions and community involvement.
HOW FACULTY AND STAFF CAN SHOW SUPPORT
Faculty, staff and administrators participating in commencement ceremonies will also be offered green ribbons on Graduation Day and can choose to wear the ribbons in support of the pledge and its ideals.
The Graduation Pledge Alliance offers graduates the chance to use the knowledge and skills acquired in college, and provides them with needed resources, to affect positive change in any organization or field, with the potential to improve the world!
