?Teaching with the NY Times?plus the USA Today and Baltimore Sun!?

As part of Towson’s civic engagement agenda, faculty members across campus have been participating in the “Teaching with The New York Times” program, a partnership between the American Democracy Project, the New York Times, and institutions of higher education across the country. Professors have used The New York Times to enrich their course curriculum in a variety of ways. This integration promotes civic engagement as the paper is used to:

* Encourage critical thinking
* Promote global awareness
* Cultivate social responsibility
* Bring relevancy into the classroom
* Foster serendipitous learning

After a successful pilot program in which the USA Today and Baltimore Sun were added to the campus readership program, these two newspapers will be added to the program for the entire spring semester. All three publications will be available to students, faculty and staff throughout campus starting on the first day of spring semester classes.

HOW IT WORKS:
Professors receive free home delivery of the New York Times Monday through Friday during the semester. The New York Times, USA Today, and Baltimore Sun will be available for students to pick up Monday through Friday at nine locations across campus. Note home delivery for faculty will only be available for the NY Times.

Professors can choose to incorporate the newspapers into courses however they see fit. The program also includes monthly NY Times Talk Lunches which provide students an opportunity to discuss current events outside of the classroom.
