I would like to call the attention of the faculty to two features of the Provost page on the Towson WEB site ({www.towson.edu/provost}). The first is the summary report of the January 12, 2005 Conference,”A Summary of the Faculty Conference of January 12, 2005, Scholarship and the Metropolitan University: What does it mean?” Included in this report are recommendations for the academic community to use flexible workload plans to meet individual goals in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service, as well as meet the collective aspirations of the institution within the Vision 2010 plan for Towson University. I would appreciate your reviewing this report and providing me with any feedback you may care to offer as we move through the current cycle of workload plans for 2005-06.
In a related vein, I would like to initiate a Provost Forum as a vehicle for dialogue on current issues within Academic Affairs. The first theme I propose is flexible workload. In order to help us access the forum, we have prepared instructions, which may be found also on the Provost WEB site ({www.towson.edu/provost}), and the Forum itself is located under What’s New. I hope the Provost Forum is helpful as an agent to enhance communication, and I look forward to your reactions.
Thank you.
James F. Brennan, Provost
