The Maryland Writing Project at Towson University is offering its 16th annual Summer Student Writers’ Workshop, an enrichment program for students who have a strong interest in writing and are entering grades 2 through 12. We also accept reluctant writers who are willing to try to write if they are nurtured. The workshop provides young writers with a chance to work in a professional writer’s environment, choosing their own topics, working at their own pace, and refining their work. The SWW is divided into groups based on age and taught by Maryland Writing Project Teacher-Consultants who share their expertise through direct writing instruction and guided individual and peer-group conferences. Following the three-week workshop, students’ writing is published in an anthology. The dates for this year’s workshop are Monday July 1 9 – Friday 2 7 from 9AM – 12 noon. There is a pre-workshop get-aquainted session at 7 PM on June 20th. Sessions are held on the TU campus and at Walkersville Middle School in Frederick. Reduced tuition is offered for children of TU faculty and staff. Go to the Maryland Writing Project website at www.towson.edu/mwp or call the MWP office for more information at x 4-3593.
