Topic: ?Mobile Computing: BYOD ? A Rapid Evolution That Is Changing the Workplace?
Date: October 18, 2012
Location: Towson University

Please join members of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum and invited guests at the October 18, 2012 meeting!

In the first half of the meeting, Marc Andonian, VP/Executive Partner, Gartner Executive Programs, Gartner, Inc. will examine ?finding a balanced approach? for BYOD. ?Consumerization is driving a growing movement for employees to be able to Bring Their Own Devices (BYOD) to the office and use them as the primary or adjunct technology to support their work. This trend presents a number of options and challenges to CIOs and technology organizations to protect information and minimize risks, while creating or supporting a work-environment that is attractive and competitive to a workforce with changing expectations. Join us as we explore CIO?s attitudes toward BYOD based on survey and attendee perceptions. We will explore current trends, risks, and approaches being used by organizations to implement BYOD, along with associated costs and benefits. We will also explore how CIOs are using managed device diversity and BYOD policies to manage risks and discuss best practices for securing data, the resulting trends toward virtualizing the desktop.?(Andonian, Gartner, 2012)

In the second half of the meeting, a panel of members of the Forum, namely Neal Guernsey, recently CIO of Feld Entertainment and panel chairman, Jeff Schmidt, Associate VP and CIO Towson University, and Tim Talbot, VP Information Technology, Merkel Inc. will share insights on what they are seeing on BYOD in their respective workplaces. BYOD is a significant undertaking for any organization. The panel will further the discussion around BYOD by discussing projects within their own organizations and the challenges and opportunities that are presented.
