Those in the business of technology are extremely fortunate to experience a major revolution in the area of social computing, that isn?t simply a technical innovation, but a development that is fundamentally changing human behavior and interactions.

Some say social media and social networking are the greatest inventions since the Web. Others fear productivity degradation, privacy breaches, or simply don’t care what strangers had for lunch. In this meeting, first, Susan Landry, Managing Vice President Research, Focus: IT Leaders Enterprise Software; Content Collaboration & Social, Gartner will examine how to develop a social media strategy, engage executives and associates, and explore how social media can best benefit your business. Key Issues she will discuss include:

What is the impact of social media on business today?
How are enterprises employing social media to drive new behaviors?
What steps should organizations take to create an effective social media strategy?

Business is getting inherently more social, and the opportunities for revenue growth, innovation, ability to reach and market to customers, etc. are getting dramatically affected by social media and social computing. In the second part of this session, Jeetu Patel, CTO for the Information Intelligence Group of EMC will discuss the industry trends, technology developments, business challenges, key usage scenarios, organizational and cultural implications, governance, risk and compliance concerns, as well as the emergence of big data as a result of the new social paradigms. Finally, Mr. Patel will discuss successful approaches taken by organizations to leverage with social computing, and offer caution against common pitfalls.
