Known as the Queen of the Adriatic, the city of Venice stretches across 117 small islands in the Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea. Venice was a major center of the arts from the 13th century until the 17th century and the printing capital of the world in the 15th and 16th centuries. The influences of these periods can still be seen today in the art, architecture, and culture of Venice.
