The Towson University Police Department is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reach all drivers with an important warning: “U Drive. U Text. U Pay”. From April 1 to April 30, 2018, law enforcement officers will be out in force looking for distracted drivers and issuing tickets to anyone caught texting while driving as part of the national distracted driving enforcement campaign. Texting and driving is one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving. At any given moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010.
Driving while distracted is not just personally risky, you become a danger to everyone on the road around you. The best way not to get busted for texting while driving is to never do it in the first place. Always put your phone away prior to driving and save the humiliation of getting pulled over.
The Towson University Police and the NHTSA urge you to put your phone down when you get behind the wheel. If you need to text, pull over and park your vehicle first.
Texting while driving is dangerous, and getting caught can be expensive and embarrassing. Save face, your money, and maybe save a life—your text message can wait. Remember:
