About the Fellowship: Towson University was one of five universities across the United States to receive a 2017 Jean Dreyfus Lectureship for Undergraduate institutions award, from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation. The Jean Dreyfus Lectureship awards provide an $18,500 grant to bring a leading researcher to a primarily undergraduate institution to give public and technical lectures in the chemical sciences and to support two undergraduates in summer research. The primary investigator at TU for this grant was Mary Sajini Devadas, Ph.D., and her co-PI was Keith Reber, Ph.D.. The other four institutions to receive the award are Franklin & Marshall College, Pomona College, Providence College and Santa Clara University. The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation is a leading non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of the chemical sciences. It was established in 1946 by chemist, inventor and businessman Camille Dreyfus, who directed that the foundation’s purpose be “to advance the science of chemistry, chemical engineering and related sciences as a means of improving human relations and circumstances around the world.” Jean Dreyfus was President of the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation from 1956 until her death in 1991. Born in Chicago, in 1931 she married Camille Dreyfus, founder and chairman of the Celanese Corporation of America and of the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation.
Application Deadline: January 19th 2018
Fellowship Amount: Two awards of $5750 each
Requirements:
1. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at Towson University.
2. Applicants must have completed at least 30 credits by the end of the spring 2018 semester. To be considered for the award, transfer students must have completed at least 15 credits at Towson University.
3. Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00.
4. Applicants must agree to conduct research at Towson University for 10 weeks during the summer of 2018 with a faculty member from the chemistry department (even if your major is not chemistry/forensic chemistry) and present their research in the academic year 2018-19.
Instructions:
Students are required to submit their completed application via e-mail to Dr. Reber (kreber@towson.edu ) as a single PDF document. The application should be prepared in discussion with your advisor and will consist of the following:
1. A letter of intent, explaining in less than 300 words your career aspirations and what motivated you to do undergraduate research and apply for this fellowship.
2. A copy of your unofficial Towson University transcript.
3. A three page project narrative (excluding references and figures) describing the proposed research.
Document Formatting: Font size of 12, double spaced, one inch margins
Document should contain the following information: A project summary, background statement, methods, preliminary results if any, and future direction. Figures should be on a separate page.

5. Students must also arrange for a letter of recommendation from their faculty research mentor to be sent directly to Dr. Reber. In the case of a collaborative project, students will need a letter from each faculty member, but at least one professor must be from the chemistry department.
