Girls in the Game is a non-profit organization based in Chicago that provides and promotes sports and fitness opportunities, nutrition and health education, and leadership development to enhance the overall health and well-being of girls. Girls in the Game currently partners with Towson University to provide a Health, Sports and Leadership After School Program for third through fifth grade girls at five Baltimore public schools. Towson University’s Coordinator for Girls in the Game seeks students to serve as volunteer coaches to lead this program. Prior to leading any program, volunteers will receive a thorough training on best practices for working with youth. A background in coaching or participation in sports is not required. Both men and women are encouraged to apply. Students looking to complete service learning hours are welcome to apply. Volunteers are provided with all required equipment and programming packets.
As a volunteer coach, you would be expected to complete the necessary training and commit to coaching once a week for ten weeks throughout the semester at a local elementary school. Working with Girls in the Game presents a great opportunity for you to volunteer your time in a direct and meaningful way in the community and to build up your resume.
