Are you considering studying abroad in Japan? Towson’s exchange partner – Akita International University – has allocated a study abroad scholarship for one Towson student to study at their institution in Fall 2017! The recipient will receive a JPY 60,000 (approx. $500) stipend per month for 4 months to help cover meals, housing, or other personal expenses while abroad. Students participating in the exchange pay regular TU tuition and fees but spend the semester taking classes at AIU. Combined with the AIU scholarship this is an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed!
Located in Akita prefecture on the northern seaboard of the main island of Japan, AIU is a four hour train ride from Tokyo. Akita is the sixth largest prefecture in Japan. The AIU campus is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. Students at AIU can take introductory through advanced Japanese language as well as choose from approximately 200 courses per semester offered entirely in English. Courses are supplemented by a series of extracurricular activities such as sports clubs and cultural clubs, which allow international students the opportunity to understand the people and culture of Japan. Various field trips are also available to experience the Akita and Tohoku region and beyond.
To be eligible for the scholarship for fall 2017 you must complete your TU application for the AIU exchange in Horizons no later than February 24, 2017.
