Faculty and Staff Kudos

Patreena Parsons, a senior research analyst in the office of institutional research, presented “SAS Basics for Institutional Research” at the Maryland Association for Institutional Research’s fall conference.

Xiaolin Li, (Finance), had an article published in the prestigious Electronic Commerce Research Journal, a Springer publication. The paper, titled “Gender discrimination in online peer-to-peer credit lending: evidence from a lending platform in China,” shows that while women are more likely to receive funding form an online peer-to-peer lending platform in China, they pay higher interest rates than men, among other conclusions. The paper provides empirical evidence that contributes to the international discussion on the mounting concerns over gender discrimination in accessing financial resources in developing countries.

Several Towson University faculty attended the Colonial Academic Alliance’s 2016 Pedagogy Summit on Experiential Learning held October 27-28, 2016, at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. They were Subrata Acharya (Computer & Information Sciences); Carla Finkelstein (Instructional Leadership and Professional Development); Gary Homana (Elementary Education); Lisa Mason (Early Childhood Education); Cole Reilly (Elementary Education); Jeremy Tasch (Geography and Environmental Planning); and Bethany Willis-Hepp (Family Studies and Community Development). The summit brought together faculty and administrators from the 10 CAA member institutions to share and reflect on teaching practices that integrate academic learning with real-world application.

Jane Neapolitan (Office of Academic Innovation) served on a panel that explored “Experiential Learning: Outcomes & Institutional Context” at the Colonial Academic Alliance’s 2016 Pedagogy Summit on Experiential Learning held October 27-28, 2016, at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. The panel discussed how experiential learning can be linked to academic and co-curricular outcomes via integrative programs that span academic affairs and student affairs.
