Required Online Orientation for New Student Employees

Students hired after October 1, 2016 will need to complete an online orientation via Blackboard that will introduce student employees to recommended policies, procedures and expectations before starting a job. The orientation module should take no longer than 60 minutes to complete.

Areas covered include: performance, conduct, harassment, discrimination, ending employment and more. If a manager would also like to access the Blackboard module to view the orientation please send you name and TU ID # to Katie Woerdeman, kwoerdeman@towson.edu.

At the end of the presentation students will be expected to complete a related assessment via their Blackboard, and pass with an 80%, before starting their new job.

What Does this Mean for Hiring Managers?

After interviewing and deciding on the best candidate for your vacancy, you will need to send the following information to Katie Woerdeman (kwoerdeman@towson.edu), in an Excel spreadsheet:

  • First and last name, TU ID #, Hire@TU Job ID# and start date
  • Once this is received students will be enrolled and instructed on how to complete the orientation

This step will be added to the New Hire Checklist (PDF) as a reminder for both staff and students to complete.

The TU Student Employment Coordinator, will add your new hires to an online orientation module where they are responsible for viewing the information and taking the assessment.
