TU students with Autism:  College Orientation and Life Activities program

The Hussman Center for Adults with Autism offers the College Orientation and Life Activities (COLA) Program for a limited number of undergraduate students each semester!

The COLA program provides supports that focus on addressing challenges, developing strengths and talents, exploring opportunities, and planning for success as a Towson University student.

The key areas of support addressed are individualized according to the student’s goals.

The COLA program meets during the Fall and Spring semester.  It includes weekly individual meetings with a professional staff member, weekly meeting(s) with an undergraduate student peer mentor, and periodic group meetings with other COLA students and mentors.  The program may include work exploration activities in accordance with the COLA student’s needs and goals.   The COLA student’s active participation in and on-going self-evaluation are important components of the program.

Two levels of the COLA program are offered;  the programs have the same components, but different numbers of hours of support:

COLA Regular program:  $4000 per semester (in addition to other TU tuition and fees)

COLA Lite program:         $2500 per semester (in addition to other TU tuition and fees)

Note:  The COLA information and intake fee is $100 (paid separately from the program fee)

Financial Awards are available for up to 80 percent of the program cost, based upon financial need.  A grant for these funds was awarded by the Jill Fox Memorial Fund to the Hussman Center.   To be eligible for a Jill Fox Memorial Fund Financial Award for the COLA program, the student must meet certain criteria, including being a Maryland resident, having an autism diagnosis, and having financial need.

Applications are available upon request.

COLA Program Enrollment Numbers:  A maximum of six students can be accepted into the COLA program for Fall 2016.    Applications also may be made for Spring 2017.
