Recently, news has broken that TeamViewer, an application that allows remote access to a computer, may have been breached but the company is denying those claims. Read the article.
In response, the Office of Information Security is taking the following actions on campus:
- TeamViewer communications have already been blocked on campus networks.
- A targeted email has been sent to identified campus users warning against use of TeamViewer.
- The Office of Technology Services (OTS) will remotely uninstall the application from university-managed PCs and Macs.
Recommendations:
- Discontinue use of TeamViewer on TU computers. Contact the OTS Help Center at 410-704-5151 for supported remote access options.
- Always use unique passwords for different services so that if one is compromised the hackers don’t gain access to more of your accounts.
- It is strongly recommended that you change your NetID password, especially if you reused that password for any other services.
- Enable two-factor authentication whenever available to help protect your accounts.
