TU Health Professions in the Dominican Republic
Explore cultural diversity and healthcare in the Dominican Republic. Develop your cultural understanding through immersion in Spanish language classes and service learning opportunities. Site visits to health care institutions and organizations such as local hospitals, clinics or non-profit organizations, and schools in the local area will deepen your appreciation of what it is to be a health professional. Cross disciplinary seminar discussions, cultural activities, guest lectures, and service learning opportunities will give you a broader perspective on the social and environmental components of health and healthcare as you and other future health professionals examine topics related to the Dominican life and culture. The program is based in Santo Domingo – home to approximately 2.9 million residents. Known as the “First City of the New World”, Santo Domingo is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas. Today the city is a bustling modern urban hub steeped in history.
