Two members of the Towson History Department presented research papers at the recent conference of the American Historical Association in New York City. Professor Emeritus Edwin Hirschmann spoke on “The Right Kind of Native,” and Assistant Professor Oluwatoyin B. Oduntan on “Changing Tides: The Exclusion of Educated Africans from Colonial Service in Lagos, Nigeria, 1890-1930.” The overall title of the panel was “Racial Roles in the Victorian Empire.”

Kimberly Miller and Lisa Woznicki’s (Research & Instruction) tutorial, “Introduction to MLA Style: Works Cited Tutorial and Quiz,” has been accepted into the American Library Association/Association of College and Research Libraries Instruction Section’s Peer-Reviewed Instructional Materials Online (PRIMO) project and added to the PRIMO database.
Lena Ampadu (English) presented a paper, “What the Rootworking Tales of Charles Chesnutt and Edward P. Jones Can Teach Us About Writing,” at the NCTE Conference, National Harbor, Maryland on November 22.
Jennifer Ballengee’s (English) commentary, “The Rhetoric of Torture,” ran in The Faculty Voice, December 2014.
Alan Britt’s (English) fourteenth book of poems, Lost Among the Hours, was published in December by Rain Mountain Press. Alan read selections of his work at the Jadite Galleries in New York City on December 13.
Harvey Lillywhite (English) spoke about writing to the Association of Government Accountants in Nashville on January 13. The next day he presented “Is ‘Writing for Teachers’ Equipping Students to Write in the Workplace?” at the TU January Conference.
Angela Pelster-Wiebe (English) and her husband, Richard, wrote the screen script for War Prayer that premiered on January 25 at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Reiner Prochaska’s (English) new play, A Revolutionary Christmas, was on the boards at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre in December.
Diane Scharper’s (English) review of Richard Flanagan’s novel, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, ran in the December 8-15 issue of America magazine.
