Outlook Advanced Search

To search for an item by using multiple criteria and the Advanced Find feature:

  1. From within any workspace, place your cursor in the Instant Search box to display the
SEARCH tab on the SEARCH TOOLS contextual tab.
  2. On the SEARCH tab, in the Options group, from the Search Tools drop-down, select
    Advanced Find.
  3. From the Look for drop-down list, select the type of Outlook item to search for.
  4. If necessary, select Browse to select the folder where you want to search. The folder you choose
will populate the In field. The folder you have selected and are currently located in will be the
default location for the search and will be displayed in the In field.
  5. On the tab for the chosen workspace (Messages to search messages, Contacts to search
contacts, etc), in the Search for the word(s) text box, type the word or words you want to
    search for.
  6. From the In drop-down, select the location in the item where you want to look for the search
    term.
  7. If necessary and available, select From to choose the contact who sent the message.
  8. If necessary and available, select Sent To to choose other recipients of the message.
  9. Select Find Now to perform your search with the selected criteria. The results will appear in a
new pane at the bottom of the Advanced Find dialog box.
  10. Double-click an item in the results pane to open and view the item.
